How Safe Are You at Work?


A front-page article in a Venice Florida newspaper, the Venice Gondolier, sites examples of how to prevent workplace violence, how to respond and how to recognize the potential warning signs. The article also gives some US statistics for workplace violence,including;
There is an average of 20 homicides and about 2 million assaults and threats of violence per year in the workplace.

  • One-sixth of violent crimes occur in the workplace and guns are used in 80 percent of workplace deaths.
  • The leading cause of death on the job for women is homicide.
  • The second leading cause of death on the job for men is homicide.
  • About 43 percent of those threatened and 24 percent of those attacked at work don’t report the incident.
