Nova Scotia develops a “code of practice” to reduce workplace violence

Province won’t require bosses to double-up late-night workers: The province is recommending overnight gas station employees not work alone, but won’t force businesses to hire extra staff. The Environment and Labour Department is ready to circulate a “code of practice” for gas stations to reduce the risk of workplace violence. It requires them to have a panic button and lock their back doors, but only recommends doubling night staff. There were a menu of possible suggestions as to how we can make it safer for people in the workplace,” acting minister David Morse said Thursday. “One of them is to have a second person, but it is only one of several.”
