NSGEU recruiting group to deal with bullying and harassment

from The National Union of Public and General Employees

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) plans to recruit and train a group of facilitators to hold workshops across the province to deal with bullying and psychological harassment in the workplace.

“There is an increasing interest in the issue,” the union says in a notice posted on its website.

“The NSGEU believes that every member deserves to have a safe and healthy workplace where they are treated with dignity and respect. To this end the NSGEU plans to educate a team of facilitators with the expertise to provide information and tools, in a workshop format, to resolve problems in the workplace.”

The union is alerting all members to the issue and inviting all with an interest in the issue to consider applying to train as facilitators.

“We are particularly interested in applications from those who have experienced and resolved bullying or harassment issues in their own workplace but you need not have been bullied to apply,” NSGEU says.

“Applicants should have an interest in this issue and in facilitation and advocacy. Please note, this is not an application to take part in a bullying workshop, but to become a facilitator to deliver the program in a variety of workplaces,” it adds.

“Although not a requirement, any experience with program or curriculum development would be useful and should be noted. We are seeking members, as facilitators, from all regions of the province.”

Once selected, facilitators will help to develop the program, create a tool kit, and/or a manual that can be used in identifying and addressing bullying in the workplace. The goal is to conduct training this spring and to have the program up and running by next fall or winter.
