TORONTO, April 27 /CNW/ – Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) First Vice-President Vicki McKenna, RN, will join with other nurses and other workers to mark the 2008 Day of Mourning on Monday, April 28 in Toronto.
McKenna will speak about the increasing incidence of workplace violence faced by nurses in Ontario’s health-care industry, and the need to protect workers in this volatile environment.
McKenna will remember those who have lost their lives caring for others, including registered nurses Tecla Lin and Nelia Laroza, who died during Toronto’s SARS outbreak in 2003, and Lori Dupont, who was stabbed to death while working in the recovery room of a Windsor hospital.
ONA is the union representing 54,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals working in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community and industry.
