It’s a scenario no one wants their child to go through: an active shooter opening fire at school. The scenario became a little more real for students and teachers at Firth High School on Tuesday, who went through a simulation of a gunman opening fire.
The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office ran the scenario as a way to better prepare police officers, students, and faculty for such an emergency.
An acting gunman fired off blanks, shot loud enough to instill real fear in those a part of the simulation.
This experience forced people to face head-on what they would do in a real situation.
“It was more intense than I thought it would be, because stuff like this could actually happen, so it was kinda like what would I actually do if this type of thing were to happen,” said incoming Senior Student, Kace. “My first instinct was just to hide!”
Altogether, the simulation was a success for everyone involved.
Participants were able to act calm, and go through the proper precautions in the case of a shooter.
