As Chief of Security Operations for the WCB–Alberta for 15 years, Dick Bevan oversaw the development of the WCB’s workplace violence prevention program.
Prior to joining the WCB, Dick spent over thirty years with the Edmonton Police Service. As an inspector, he spent over 15 years commanding high-risk incidents, hostage situations and special weapons teams.
During this time Dick was also involved in investigations of major workplace crimes, most notably the mental health nurse that was stabbed to death in her office in Edmonton by a patient who she had been treating regularly. The investigation resulted in changes to the manner in which health care professionals deal with at-risk clients.
The WCB’s training video, Workplace Violence – It’s Everybody’s Business, was produced by Dick and he continues to deliver workplace violence prevention workshops in the Edmonton area.
